Vehicle Description

This 1957 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud is a right-hand drive saloon that was supplied new via renowned Rolls-Royce dealer, Lex Mead of Maidenhead in the UK.

The car is finished in black over red leather upholstery and powered by a 4.9-liter inline-six paired with a Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes 15” steel wheels with covers, front fog lamps, wood interior trim, rear tray tables, and power-assisted steering and brakes.

The J. P. Blatchley-designed body was manufactured by the Pressed Steel Company and features an aluminum-alloy hood, trunk lid, and doors. This example is finished in black and believed to have been repainted during previous ownership. Exterior details include Lucas front fog lamps, dual side-view mirrors, and a Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament. The prior owners have noted evidence of bodywork and previous rust repairs on the inner fenders and various paint blemishes are visible on other areas of the vehicle, including extensive cracking of the paint on the roof, which is believed to be original to this car.

The 15” steel wheels wear polished covers with black accents and are mounted with 235/75 Firestone FR721 whitewall tires. A full-size spare is found in the trunk. The Silver Cloud suspension features a coil-sprung independent setup up front and semi-elliptic springs out back. Braking is handled by servo-assisted drums at all four corners.

The right-hand drive cabin houses two rows of bench seats trimmed in red leather with color-coordinated door panels. Red carpets and black rubber mats line the floors, and wood trim extends from the dash to the tops of the doors. Amenities include a push-button AM radio, power-assisted steering, and fold-down tray tables for rear seat passengers. The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of centrally-mounted Smiths instrumentation including a reverse-sweep 110-mph speedometer and readouts for fuel level, water temperature, amperage, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows just under 20,500 miles, though total mileage is unknown. The analog clock is currently inoperable.

The 4.9-liter inline-six features twin SU carburetors, a dual-point Delco-Remy distributor, and an F-head configuration that incorporates overhead intake valves and side-mounted exhaust valves. A battery cut-off switch has been installed in the trunk.
